How do I know if I have Support Coordination funding?

By Anosh Mian Khel · Reviewed 20 August 2026

Support Coordination is one of the most useful budgets in an NDIS plan, and also one of the easiest to miss. It sits in its own category, it isn't in every plan, and the NDIA doesn't always explain it when a plan is approved. Here's how to check yours in a few minutes.

Where to look in your plan

Open your plan document or log into the my NDIS portal or app and go to the funding section. You're looking for a Capacity Building category called Support Coordination (in newer plans it can appear as "Support Coordination and Psychosocial Recovery Coaches"). It's separate from your Core budget and from other Capacity Building items like Improved Daily Living.

If the category is there with a dollar amount next to it, you have Support Coordination funding. The amount is typically enough for a set number of hours across the plan period, and it's yours to use with a coordinator you choose.

What the levels mean

Plans fund coordination at different levels. Level 1, Support Connection, is lighter-touch help to link you with supports and build your confidence managing them. Level 2, Coordination of Supports, is the common one: ongoing help to set up, manage and troubleshoot your supports. Level 3, Specialist Support Coordination, is for high-complexity situations and is delivered by specialist practitioners. Your plan usually states the level, and your coordinator bills against the matching line item.

If the wording is confusing

Plans aren't always consistent. Some say "Support Coordination" plainly, some list line-item codes, and stated amounts don't always translate obviously into hours. As a rough guide for 2026-27, Level 1 is priced at $80.06 an hour and Level 2 at $100.14 an hour, so a $2,500 Level 2 budget is roughly 25 hours across your plan. If you can't tell what you have, a coordinator, your plan manager or your local NDIA office can read it with you. TrueSide does this in the free intro call, no strings attached.

If you don't have it but need it

Support Coordination isn't automatic. The NDIA funds it where it's "reasonable and necessary", which in practice often means situations like a first plan, limited informal support, complex or multiple providers, or a big life change. If your plan doesn't include it and you're struggling to put supports in place, you can raise it at your plan reassessment, or request a plan variation sooner with evidence of why you need it. Be specific: what tasks are going undone, what it's costing you, and who currently carries that load.

One thing to check before you sign with anyone

If your plan is NDIA-managed (agency-managed), you can currently only use registered providers for this support. Plan-managed and self-managed participants can choose registered or unregistered coordinators, including TrueSide. How your plan is managed is written in the same funding section, so check both while you're there.
