Dari-speaking NDIS support worker in Melbourne.
For Afghan families and Dari-speaking NDIS participants in Melbourne, finding a support worker who speaks your language is only part of the picture. You also need someone who understands your culture, your family, and your faith. TrueSide offers all three.
More than a language. A shared understanding.
Melbourne is home to one of the largest Afghan communities in Australia, concentrated across suburbs like Dandenong, Noble Park, Springvale, Hampton Park, Narre Warren, and Cranbourne. Many families in this community have NDIS participants who need daily support, but finding a worker who speaks Dari, respects Afghan cultural norms, and genuinely understands the family dynamic is extremely difficult.
Most NDIS providers will tell you they can arrange a "culturally appropriate" worker. In practice, that often means someone who has completed an online cultural awareness module. It does not mean someone who grew up in the community, speaks the language at home, and prays at the same mosque your family does.
TrueSide is different because Dari is not a service add-on. Anosh Mian Khel, TrueSide's founder and support worker, speaks Dari natively. He grew up in Melbourne's south-east Afghan community. He understands the subtleties of Afghan hospitality, the importance of showing respect to elders, and the role that extended family plays in decision-making about care. That is not something you can learn from a training course.
What Dari-speaking support includes
- Full Dari communication. Conversations with the participant, their parents, siblings, and extended family can all happen in Dari. No interpreters needed, no miscommunication, no awkward silences.
- Cultural understanding. Afghan families often prefer that certain tasks are handled in specific ways. TrueSide understands gender norms around personal care, the significance of chai in a home visit, the expectation that a guest removes their shoes, and how to navigate multi-generational households where the grandmother's opinion carries as much weight as the plan manager's.
- Faith-aware support. Through the Hayat pathway, prayer times are respected and built into every shift. Halal meal preparation is the default. Ramadan adjustments are planned in advance. These are not special requests. They are how support should work for Muslim families.
- Family involvement. Afghan families tend to be closely involved in a participant's care. TrueSide welcomes that involvement rather than treating it as an obstacle. Parents and siblings are kept informed, and family preferences are respected alongside participant choice.
NDIS services available in Dari
All of TrueSide's core services can be delivered in Dari: daily living and personal care, community participation, transport, and household tasks. Service agreements and formal documentation are in English (as required for NDIS compliance), but every interaction with the participant and their family can be in Dari if that is preferred.

Frequently asked questions
Where can I find a Dari-speaking NDIS support worker in Melbourne?
TrueSide provides fluent Dari-speaking NDIS support across Melbourne's south-east, covering Greater Dandenong and the City of Casey. This includes suburbs like Dandenong, Noble Park, Springvale, Cranbourne, Hampton Park, Keysborough, and surrounding areas.
Is TrueSide's Dari support available for the whole family?
Yes. Anosh speaks Dari (also known as Farsi) fluently and can communicate with the participant, their parents, siblings, and extended family in Dari. Family involvement is a core part of how we work.
What does culturally responsive support look like in Dari?
It means more than just speaking the language. It means understanding Afghan family structures, respecting elders, being aware of gender dynamics, knowing the difference between Dari and Farsi dialects, and treating faith-based routines like prayer and halal meals as a normal part of the day rather than a special request.
Can support be delivered entirely in Dari?
Yes. If the participant or their family prefer all communication in Dari, that is absolutely fine. Notes and invoices will still be in English for plan managers, but the day-to-day support experience can be fully in Dari.
Is Dari the same as Farsi?
Dari and Farsi are both varieties of Persian. Dari is the form spoken in Afghanistan, while Farsi (sometimes called Western Persian) is spoken in Iran. They are mutually intelligible with some differences in vocabulary and pronunciation. Anosh speaks Dari natively and can communicate comfortably with speakers of either variety.
