How to choose an NDIS support worker
Choosing who comes into your home and supports you is a big decision. Here are the questions worth asking before you commit to anyone.
Will it be the same worker each time?
This is the single most important question. Rotating workers means re-explaining your routine, preferences and culture over and over. Ask directly, and listen for a clear answer - with a founder-operated provider like TrueSide, it’s the same trusted worker every shift.
Are they properly cleared and insured?
Ask to see an NDIS Worker Screening clearance, a Working with Children Check if relevant, a police check, first aid, and insurance. A good provider sends these the same day without fuss.
Do they understand your language and culture?
If English isn’t your first language, or your faith and customs shape daily life, a worker who already understands all that changes everything. Ask what languages they speak and how they handle things like halal meals, prayer times or a preference for a same-gender worker.
How do they handle the money and the paperwork?
Clear service agreements, correct NDIS item codes, transparent rates at or below the price guide, and tidy invoicing to your plan manager. If pricing or paperwork feels vague, that’s a flag.
Do they actually listen?
The best sign is a free, no-pressure meet & greet where they ask about your goals before talking about themselves. If you feel heard, that’s the relationship you want.
